USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78)

NORFOLK, Va. (June 24, 2017) -- Lt. Jamal Scarlett, of Murrieta, California, a chaplain aboard the future USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), leads a baptism ceremony for Lt. John "Jack" Curran, a Ford Sailor, and his wife, Lt. Emily Curran, an Aircraft Carrier New Construction Assistant Project Officer for Supervisor of Shipbuilding, in the ship's forecastle. The custom of baptizing infants aboard ships dates back to the British Royal Navy in which the infant is baptized under or inside the ship's bell.
