NORFOLK, Va. (June 24, 2017) -- Lt. John "Jack" Curran, assigned to Pre-Commissioning Unit Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), and his wife, Lt. Emily Curran, an Aircraft Carrier New Construction Assistant Project Officer for Supervisor of Shipbuilding, baptize their son during a ceremony in the ship's forecastle. The custom of baptizing infants aboard ships dates back to the British Royal Navy in which the infant is baptized under or inside the ship's bell.
