Maj. Gen. Joseph Martin, commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division, addresses members of the Chicago Council for Global Affairs during a forum in Chicago, August 28, 2017. Martin engaged the council in a discussion on the importance of readiness, how readiness is built and shared the attributes of a Soldier. He also shared personal experiences from his 31 years of service, to include deployments to Iraq. Martin, with Command Sgt. Maj. Joseph Cornelison, command sergeant major of the 1st Infantry Division, visited Chicago to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the division during the reopening of the First Division museum in Cantigny Park in Wheaton, Illinois. They additionally visited various venues in the Chicago-land area to commemorate 100 years of service.
