In this image released by the Texas Military Forces, Mrs. Penny George, in back, a Gold Star Mother talks with Karend Sanders, Feed Store committee member during the Armed Forces Appreciation Day barbecue luncheon at the Rocking Rodeo Pavilion at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Houston, Texas, Tuesday, March 2, 2011. Mrs. George became a Gold Star mother after losing her son Phillip to the war in Afghanistan. Volunteers from the barbecue committee cooked over 650 pounds of sausage and brisket each to serve to the veterans and current service-members and their families able to attend the event. In addition to the food provided during the event, two Texans cheerleaders, Ms. Houston, Annie Flores, and Miss Rodeo Texas Princess for 2010 and 2011 were on hand to sign photos for the troops.
