170914-N-WB378-0007 ST. JOHN, U.S. Virgin Islands (Sept. 14, 2017) – Hurricane Irma wiped out vegetation, structures, boats and landscapes in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Irma sustained 185-mph winds for 37 hours, the longest any cyclone on the globe has maintained that intensity. The Department of Defense continues to support the lead federal agency, FEMA, as well as the state and local authorities in disaster relief efforts.
