170914-BD107-008 ST. JOHN, U.S. Virgin Islands (Sept. 14, 2017) – Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg speaks with reporters during his visit to the U.S. Virgin Islands. He discussed the strong connection between NYC and USVI and stated, “More than 375,000 New York residents have visited U. S. Virgin Islands over the past five years and more than 9,100 New York City residents were born in the U.S. Virgin Islands.” Hurricane Irma sustained 185-mph winds for 37 hours, the longest any cyclone on the globe has maintained that intensity. The Department of Defense continues to support the lead federal agency, FEMA, as well as the state and local authorities in the USVI with disaster relief efforts.
