John Kadz, assistant air department officer of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), monitors the distance to the pier as the ship arrives in White Beach Naval Facility for a 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) offload. The ship’s arrival in Okinawa signals the end of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s final deployment with BHR as the ship is scheduled to turn over duties with the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) in winter 2018. Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, is operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
