OKINAWA, Japan (Sept. 19, 2017) Sailors assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) throw a heaving line to line handlers upon the ship's arrival White Beach Naval Facility for an offload of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU). The ship’s arrival in Okinawa signals the end of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s final deployment with BHR as the ship is scheduled to turn over duties with the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) in winter 2018. Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, is operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
