EDINBURG, Texas (Oct. 2, 2017) Houston native, Capt. Thomas Herzig, commanding officer, Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio, speaks on the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) within the Navy during the 2017 Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology Week’s (HESTEC) STEM Literacy Panel held on the campus of the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. HESTEC is a nationally recognized model for promoting STEM careers to students of all ages. Now in its 16th year, the program has been recognized as a “Bright Spot in Hispanic Education” by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
