AGUADILLA, Puerto Rico – Nioso Soto (far right) reacts along with family members the moments lights come on inside her home in Atalaya on Nov. 14. Soto has relied on limited power provided by a generator she shares with neighbors since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico's electrical grid on Sept. 20. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, working with contractor PowerSecure and its sub-contractors, currently has electrical repair crews at multiple sites throughout northwestern Puerto Rico that have been restoring power to up to 1,000 residences a day.
