Gunnery Sgt. Joey Cruz, senior drill instructor, Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, explains his expectations of his new recruits at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Dec. 15. After spending the first week conducting in-processing, recruits marched to their new squad bay where their drill instructors introduced themselves, recited the Drill Instructor Creed and began carrying out the mission of transforming civilians into United States Marines. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Golf Company is scheduled to graduate March 9.
