A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contractor hammers a wedge into a chainsaw cut in order to widen the space between the stump and the rest of the tree and to help direct it in the area they want it to fall on a right of entry home lot in Joplin, Mo. The tree will be cleared from the lot and sent to the Schifferdecker debris site and chipped into a very rough mulch for beneficial secondary use. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is managing debris removal as part of the federal tornado recovery effort, which includes removal of vegetation that was badly damaged during the May 22 tornado that ripped through the town.
