    Lance Cpl. Cayer, a native of Chicopee, Massachusetts, enlisted from recruiting substation Springfield before leaving for basic training in December of 2016. The Marines trained at JWTC to prepare for an upcoming patrol of the Indo-Pacific region as the Ground Combat Element for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
