Pfc. Yuriy Lashchuk, born in Krivoy-Rog, Ukraine, raised his right hand and repeated the Oath of Allegiance to become an American citizen, during a naturalization ceremony at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, Nov. 9. An infantryman assigned to the 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division's C Company, 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, Lashchuk has lived in Sacramento, Calif., since his family immigrated to the U.S. when he was 7 years old. "Coming from a poor country to the U.S. is like being saved," he said. Wanting to serve his adopted nation, he joined the Army about one year ago. He is currently deployed to Iraq with the 2/82 “Falcon Brigade” in support of Operation New Dawn.
