Lance Cpl. Dustin G. Hawkins, a Monteca, Calif., native, accepts a letter of appreciation from Kiyomasa Yasamura, the chief of police, in the local police department in Okinawa City Dec. 9. Hawkins, a patrolman with PMO, received the award for his help in a crime involving a service member and a local national. “My actions set the example for the future so that we can work together,” said Hawkins. The Okinawa Prefectural Police and the Provost Marshal’s Office frequently work together, but the award is an uncommon event between the two departments. His wife, Lance Cpl. Meyvis Hawkins, an electrician with facility engineer Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Marine Corps Installations Pacific, stands beside him as he receives his letter of appreciation
