Lance Cpl. Derrick B. Rew uses a pike pole to simulate removing a battery from a vehicle during Ryukyu Warrior 12 on Ie Shima Dec. 6. The battery is the first object removed from the vehicle to prevent sparks from igniting the wreckage. Ryukyu Warrior is an annual training exercise where units within 1st Marine Aircraft Wing conduct training exercises. Rew is an aircraft rescue firefighter with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, Marine Wing Support Group 17, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
