NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Feb. 14, 2019) Vice Adm. Michael Moran, principal military deputy assistant secretary of the Navy (research, development, and acquisition), is briefed by Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) 1st Class Louis Mountain, from Seat Pleasant, Maryland, assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford's (CVN 78) air department, on Ford's electromagnetic aircraft launching system (EMALS) during a tour of the Navy’s newest aircraft carrier. Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer and Moran visited Ford to see first-hand and hear from Sailors on the progress being made during the ship’s post-shakedown availability at Huntington Ingalls Industries-Newport News Shipbuilding.
