Sgt. 1st Class Michael Rhoades, of Marland, Okla., receives a Bronze Star medal from Col. Michael Kinnison, officer-in-charge of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team demobilization, for exceptionally meritorious service in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from July 1, 2011, to March 5, 2012. He has more than 17 years of service with the Oklahoma Army National Guard. He is the platoon sergeant for 2nd Platoon, Company D, 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry. He was one of more the 2,200 Oklahoma Army National Guard soldiers to serve in Afghanistan for the past eight months.
