Staff Sgt. Richard R. Williams, Hernando, Miss., of the Senatobia-based Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 198th Armor Regiment, fires his M4 rifle around a “wall” during his winning performance at the Mississippi Army National Guard’s 2012 Best Warrior Competition, held March 21-23 at Camp McCain, Miss. One of nine in the competition, each soldier challenged a wide range of events designed to evaluate their Army aptitude. Events also included a written test, Army Physical Fitness Test, M4 rifle and M9 pistol qualification, Engagement Skills Trainer, land navigation, combative competition, obstacle course and Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Interview Board. Williams advances to compete in the National Guard regional competition next month in an effort to represent all Army National Guard Soldiers during the Army’s Best Warrior Competition later this year.
