Corporal Michael Maurer of Batavia, N.Y., advises his Afghan counterpart during a 36-hour training evolution recently. The squad leader, along with the rest of his unit of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, participated in a two-week long training event focusing on counter improvised explosive device training and practical application, advisor training, combat policing, key leader engagements and tactical sight exploitation.
