Cpl. Josue Barron from Cudahy, Calif., will compete in the 2012 Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colo., April 30-May 5. Barron, 22, will compete in cycling and wheelchair basketball. The 2007 Bell High School graduate is currently recovering from combat wounds in San Diego. Barron, who joined the Marine Corps to avoid gangs, lost his left eye and left leg in an improvised explosive device blast in Afghanistan, in September 2010, while serving with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. Most notable is his dedication to his unit at the time of his injury that he decided to have his prosthetic eye outfitted with his unit's logo, which is also featured on his prosthetic leg. The newly-married Marine hopes to reach his personal goals with motivation from his basketball hero, Michael Jordan. More than 200 wounded, ill or injured service members from the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Special Operations Command are scheduled to compete in the Paralympic-style competition.
