Key members of the U.S. and German team, that were responsible for planning and completing the Newman Village Army housing project, cut the red ribbon symbolizing opening house number 2378 for Sgt. Robert Tickle and his family.

Newman Village is the Army Family Housing area at the newly named Clay Kaserne that U.S. Army in Europe Soldiers and their families will call home in the coming year. The housing area exceeds German energy standards, using almost 50% less primary energy than allowable. Newman Village takes it’s name from the late Col. James R. Newman, who as the Military Administrator for Hesse in the 1940’s, worked vigorously to assist in rebuilding the German civilian government and the German economy. Newman was also instrumental in the relaxation of censorship and other occupation regulations and oversaw the establishment of first democratic elections.
