Airmen from the California Air National Guard’s 146th Airlift Wing sort medical supplies, April 4, 2020, at the Redding Civic Auditorium in Redding, California. This federal medical station (FMS) is one of many fully stocked sites throughout California capable of handling hospital overflow should local authorities need extra beds due to the coronavirus crisis. FMSs are rapidly deployable caches containing beds, supplies, and medicines which can quickly turn a building into a temporary medical shelter during a national emergency.
