U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Hunter Nix, left, a training noncommissioned officer and troop handler within Joint Reception Center (JRC), shares his experience, on Camp Foster, June 1, 2020, training the new fleet Marines with a week-long orientation to the island of Okinawa.
As the Marines wait to finish their last day of JRC, Nix shares the last segment of the training to prepare them for their units and the new island experience.
“These Marines are brand new to the fleet, and we want to help them adjust and learn that there are programs out there to help them,” he said. “I like teaching Marines, and I want them to leave here with their questions already answered. We want the knowledge of being on a new island already instilled in them before going to their new units.”
“We hope after the Marines leave JRC, they try to immerse themselves in the island, live amongst the local community, and be friends with them,” he said.
Despite COVID-19 restrictions, JRC Marines have continued to assist hundreds of accompanied and unaccompanied service members with their overseas transition. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Karis Mattingly)
