Sgt. Evan Guthrie, a member of Camp Buehring’s First Sergeant’s Detail, drives a stake for a sunshade outside one of the camp’s dining facilities. Erecting sunshades is just one of the myriad of jobs the detail takes care of to help sustain the camp and the nearly 7,000 personnel who live and work there. The half-dozen soldiers of the First Sergeant’s Detail belong to the 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment, South Carolina Army National Guard, which took over camp and security-force operations in northern Kuwait in April. Guthrie is from Roseville, Ill.
