Spc. Cameron Durham (right), a member of Camp Buehring’s First Sergeant’s Detail, leads Third Infantry Division soldiers Spc. Shane Shahan (left) and Pfc. Dominic Montoya (center), on a daily pickup of trash along the camp’s inside perimeter. Picking up trash is just one of the myriad of jobs the detail takes care of to help sustain the camp and the nearly 7,000 personnel who live and work there. The half-dozen soldiers of the First Sergeant’s Detail belong to the 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment, South Carolina Army National Guard, which took over camp and security-force operations in northern Kuwait in April. The detail occasionally receives help from soldiers of other units, like Shahan and Montoya. Durham is from Myrtle Beach, S.C., Shahan is from Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Montoya is from Tularosa, N.M.
