“I was born and raised in Port Au Prince, Haiti, to loving parents who raised and supported myself, my six brothers, and one sister. In 1999, my parents moved us to New York. I struggled through school due to the language barrier, and spent many years in English as a second language classes and after-school tutoring programs. At age 15 I became fluent in English, and later graduated high school in the top 5% of my 900-student graduating class.”
“I began attending college, but decided to pause when I learned I was going to be a father with my first-born. I joined the Marine Corps in 2013, and my son was born while I was in boot camp. Two years later, my daughter was born. Through my experiences and obstacles I have overcome, I learned that anything worth having is worth fighting for. Nothing is ever handed to you nor should you wait for an opportunity to appear. You should always be willing to strive and prepare for what you want. In my case I wanted a better life for myself and my family. Every day has a challenge that awaits us, but it’s meant to prepare us and better us for the future that lies ahead.”
