A family listens to a joint Navy-Marine Corps performance at Millennium Park here, Aug. 13. The Marine Corps Band New Orleans joined Navy Band Great Lakes to perform during the War of 1812 Commemoration celebrations in Chicago. A three-year national celebration honoring the War of 1812 and “The Star-Spangled Banner” began in New Orleans in April 2012 with other celebrations taking place in New York, Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland and other cities. The Marine Corps Band New Orleans undertook a seven-week trip to Northern United States to perform during these events. The Marine Corps’ role in this event reinforces its naval character and showcases the Navy-Marine Corps team.
