Local citizens hold flags as the Marine Corps Band New Orleans follows during a parade on the South Side of Chicago, Aug. 15. The Marine band also joined Navy Band Great Lakes to perform during the War of 1812 Commemoration celebrations in Chicago. A three-year national celebration honoring the War of 1812 and “The Star-Spangled Banner” began in New Orleans in April 2012 with other celebrations taking place in New York, Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland and other cities. The Marine Corps Band New Orleans undertook a seven-week trip to Northern United States to perform during these events. The Marine Corps’ role in this event reinforces its naval character and showcases the Navy-Marine Corps team.
