Staff Sgt. James Merville, an instrument repair technician with Marine Corps Band New Orleans, plays on a trombone at Millennium Park during a joint Navy-Marine Corps performance here, Aug. 13. The Marine band joined Navy Band Great Lakes to perform during the War of 1812 Commemoration celebrations in Chicago. A three-year national celebration honoring the War of 1812 and “The Star-Spangled Banner” began in New Orleans in April 2012 with other celebrations taking place in New York, Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland and other cities. The Marine Corps Band New Orleans undertook a seven-week trip to Northern United States to perform during these events. The Marine Corps’ role in this event reinforces its naval character and showcases the Navy-Marine Corps team.
