Master Sgt. William Call, the bandmaster for the Marine Corps Band New Orleans, conducts a joint Navy-Marine Corps band during a performance at Sinnissippi Park Music Shell here, Aug. 14. The Marine band joined Navy Band Great Lakes to perform during the War of 1812 Commemoration celebrations in Chicago. A three-year national celebration honoring the War of 1812 and “The Star-Spangled Banner” began in New Orleans in April 2012 with other celebrations taking place in New York, Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland and other cities. The Marine Corps Band New Orleans undertook a seven-week trip to Northern United States to perform during these events. The Marine Corps’ role in this event reinforces its naval character and showcases the Navy-Marine Corps team. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Marcin Platek/Released)
