Julie Anderson, operations branch chief for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District, views dredging operations at the Port of Alaska on Sep. 25 near Anchorage. Shoaling north, south and at the dock face combined with some of the largest tidal fluctuations in the world contribute to accumulation of sediment. To keep the channels clear, USACE dredges from May 1 to Nov. 1 each year.
