Dredging operations conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers- Alaska District at the Port of Alaska on Sep. 25 near Anchorage. After dredging material is collected from the area near the docks, it is deposited 3,000 feet offshore, where the currents cannot bring it back to the harbor. This keeps shipping lanes clear for an estimated 2,400 to 2,600 cargo containers that arrive at the port each week.
