Capt. Makenzie Johnson is a weapons systems officer instructor and the executive officer for the 9th Bomb Squadron. With her job as a WSO instructor, she gets to teach new flyers to the squadron how to employ tactically and more senior flyers in the squadron how to lead a crew and successfully plan a tactical mission. As an executive officer, Johnson oversees information management activities for the commander.
Johnson has deployed and participated in varies military training exercises to include Red Flag, Green Flag, Weapons School Integration school, Conus-to-Conus missions and Bomber Agile Combat Experiment. She also contributed in several Female Fitment events for the Department of Defense aimed at creating uniform items that are better suited for females.
“I try to keep a positive attitude and find the silver lining in things,” Johnson said. “I’m incredibly proud to be an instructor on what I believe is the best aircraft out there. This allows me to guide those in my squadron, and hopefully create better aviators for when I one day have to leave the bomber community.”
