A wreath sits in front of the U.S. Naval War College 9/11 memorial in Newport, R.I., Sept. 11, 2012, during a commemoration ceremony. The memorial, made from the facade of the Pentagon where it was damaged Sept. 11, 2001, contains the names of NWC alumni who were killed during the terrorist attacks. Terrorists hijacked four passenger aircraft Sept. 11, 2001. Two of the aircraft were deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center in New York; one was crashed into the Pentagon; the fourth crashed near Shanksville, Pa. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Eric Dietrich/Released)
