Sgt. 1st Class Jacob Nelson, a Wichita native and platoon sergeant with the Kansas National Guard, sweeps a simulated mine test field area in order to remove any metallic objects and thereby sterilize the training area at an Armenian military base outside of Yerevan. Kansas National Guardsmen are in Armenia in order to help the Armenian military develop standard-operating-procedures and teach Armenian demining trainers in order to help Armenia develop its own humanitarian demining program. The Kansas National Guard and Armenia routinely interact through the National Guard’s State Partnership Program, linking U.S. States with designated partner countries.
