Career highlights: Rebecca Nelson started as volunteer firefighter and worked her way up to the rank of Captain at both Bayside Volunteer Fire Department and Coast Guard Base Kodiak Fire And Rescue Department. She has a broad range of experience in all aspects of fire service. She serves as a fire and medical instructor for the Coast Guard, City of Kodiak, and Bayside Volunteer Fire Department.
Inspiration: A major source of inspiration for her is serving the public. She likes being able to help people when they are having some of their worst moments and have a part in turning around their bad situation to be the first step in their road to recovery.
Words of wisdom: “For a woman to be in the fire service, they need to be physically strong, mentally tough, and serve with humility,” said Nelson. “This can be applied to all career paths.”
Career Goal: To one day serve as a volunteer fire chief.
