Hard hats and shovels wait for state, county, city, business, and Alabama National Guard leaders to begin the groundbreaking ceremony that marked the start of new construction at Fort McClellan.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held July 29, 2021, kicked off an estimated two-and-a-half-year project at the Alabama National Guard's Fort McClellan Training Center in Anniston, Ala., that is replacing 15 WWII-era buildings with three two-story barracks, two single-story barracks, two dining facilities, two company administration buildings, and a battalion headquarters building, totaling 107,812 square feet of new construction with bunk space for more than 350 personnel.
