Representatives from the Alabama National Guard, state, county, and city governments, and the design, architecture, and construction firms involved in the development break ground during a ceremony on the site of the new barracks project.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held July 29, 2021, kicked off an estimated two-and-a-half-year project at the Alabama National Guard's Fort McClellan Training Center in Anniston, Ala., that is replacing 15 WWII-era buildings with three two-story barracks, two single-story barracks, two dining facilities, two company administration buildings, and a battalion headquarters building, totaling 107,812 square feet of new construction with bunk space for more than 350 personnel.
