Benson Cortez, an armored crewman assigned to 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, qualifies on an M17, the Army’s new service pistol replacing the M9, at Fort Stewart, Georgia, Sept. 29, 2021. The full-size M17 has a striker-fired operating system and has a 17-round magazine capacity compared to the M9's 15-round capacity.
