Capt. Derek Fix, chief of staff, Carrier Strike Group 12 (CSG 12), prepares to commit the cremated remains of a family member to the sea during a burial at sea on the first-in-class aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Frod’s (CVN 78) aircraft elevator 2, Sept. 17, 2022. During the ceremony, the cremated remains of 30 souls were committed to the sea in the Atlantic Ocean.
