Capt. Laura E. Chapek, Company B, 1st Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment commander, speaks about the dedication, leadership skills and empathy of Pfc. Alyssa Cahoon during a memorial service Sept. 16 at the Fort Jackson Main Post Chapel. Cahoon passed away from a “rare and completely undetectable heart condition” according to her mother Susan Cahoon in a Facebook message.
