SAN DIEGO (Oct. 13, 2022) – Master Chief Lucas Jenkins, command master chief of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), speaks to the ship’s crew during a cake cutting ceremony in observance of the Navy’s 247th birthday, Oct. 13. The Continental Congress established the United States Navy on October 13, 1775, the largest and most lethal fighting force in the world. Makin Island is currently homeported in San Diego.
