SAN DIEGO (Oct. 13, 2022) – The chief’s mess recite “Anchors Aweigh” during a cake cutting ceremony in observance of the Navy’s 247th birthday aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Oct. 13. “Anchors Aweigh,” the official song of the United States Navy, refers to anchors hoisted and the ship is ready to set sail.
