U.S. Marines from Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, provide suppressive fire during a bilateral live-fire training with soldiers from 1st Regimental Landing Team, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, during Iron Fist 23 at Hijudai, Japan, Feb. 24, 2023. The bi-lateral live-fire training was conducted to maintain proficiency in bi-lateral tactics in conjunction with maneuver elements during Iron Fist 23. Iron Fist is an annual bi-lateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
