U.S. Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, monitor the launch of landing craft utilities from the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD-48) during beach landing operations off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, Mar. 4, 2023. The Marines and Sailor aboard the USS Ashland worked hand in hand to conduct LCU operations in preparation for a ship-to-shore movement during exercise Iron Fist 23. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, and the JMSDF.
