U.S. Navy Sailors with the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD-48) toss a mooring line to the crew of a landing craft utility to pull it into the well deck of USS Ashland off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, Mar. 4, 2023. The Marines and Sailor aboard the USS Ashland worked hand in hand to conduct LCU operations in preparation for ship-to-shore movements during exercise Iron Fist 23. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, and the JMSDF.
