A cofferdam is being cleaned out to prepare for a portion of the Bascule bridge and future bridge tender house for the newly constructed Onslow Beach Bridge on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, March 8, 2023. Cofferdams are enclosures within a body of water that are pumped out to create a dry working environment. Due to damage from Hurricane Florence, the 70-year-old swing bridge at Onslow Beach is being replaced by a single leaf Bascule bridge (levered vertical platform) with a projected completion date in the spring of 2025. The bridge replacement is part of the overall Task Force Florence hurricane reconstruction project. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Jennifer E. Douds)
