Two cranes lower a 124-foot girder which will eventually form the new Onslow Beach Bridge currently under construction on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, March 8, 2023. Emplacement of the five girders will allow for the removal of the temporary work platform on the island side of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Due to damage from Hurricane Florence, the 70-year-old swing bridge at Onslow Beach is being replaced by a single leaf Bascule bridge (levered vertical platform) with a projected completion date in the spring of 2025. The bridge replacement is part of the overall Task Force Florence hurricane reconstruction project. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Jennifer E. Douds)
