Bonnie Carroll, president and founder of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), offers a comforting hug to Fadima Kambou, founder of Go PAGA, a program for the economic integration of widows and orphans of fallen soldiers in Burkina Faso. Kambou says the program is about teaching the women of her country to fish, not giving them the fish. It's about empowering them and their children after the loss of their husbands and fathers. Carroll began the TAPS organization, which has a similar mission to that of Go PAGA aimed at providing comfort, care and resources to all those grieving the death of a military loved one, in 1994, at a time when there was no national support network for the families of America's fallen heroes. TAPS is one of the partnering programs of the NGB J1-Warrior Resilience and Fitness Division (J1-W), which aims to connect Army National Guard (ARNG) and Air National Guard (ANG) service members and families with various support programs.
